Am Super Excited about my Next Surfing Safari ! Travelling to Halifax next week and Lawrencetown Beach to go to One Life Surf School http://www.onelifesurf.com/onelifesurf/Contact_Us.html
Last time I surfed was June 2010 in Tofino B.C. at Surf Sister ! http://surfsister.com/
One of my Goals has been to not only keep up my Surfing but to be able to say I Surfed on Both Coasts of Canada !!!
Surfing is one of the most humbling sports there is ! No matter how strong you think you are...you soon realize you are not ! Surfing requires not only agility, strength and balance, but also timing and extreme core / upper arms strength. The whole body has to work together to get you out past break, up on the board and hold it.
I still remember my "first time" (when I broke my Surfing Cherry!) - La Jolla, San Diego at Surf Diva http://www.surfdiva.com/
On the beautiful beach in La Jolla and close to the famous Torry Pines Golf Course - it was the perfect setting ! I had done my research and even took my sister as my chaperone.
Lessons on-land are first as well as respect for water/currents/weather/sharks and jellyfish (as if the only thing you have to worry about is staying on the board !!) LOL
Luckily for me - wrong time of year for sharks - BUT I had to keep stamping my feet to scare off the jellyfish !
Took me a few waves to get up on the board and for each time I got up - I got kicked off 20 times !
The exhileration of getting up and riding your first wave ?? NOTHING on earth comes close to the feeling !
I still remember saying to my sister the next morning - "My hands hurt" !!! So many muscles go into to surfing !
I love it and at 46 feel like a 20 year old !!!
